The cost of freedom:

What would you do if you didn’t have freedom?......How much would you pay for freedom?......Would you give up the only life you knew?......Would you pay for freedom for the rest of your life no matter what the cost?......How would you know, living in the land of the free?......

Let me tell you:

I  met this wonderful man a little over 3 years ago. He has a life story that is the most fascinating story I have ever heard. Everybody I have come across that has heard even a small portion of his life story is extremely in awe over the small bits and pieces that they have heard. I have heard so many pieces of the puzzle, that I too am extremely amazed at his life story:

My fiancé grew up in a communist country. He had a wife and small baby that he was willing to temporarily leave behind for the sake of freedom. He hated the rules and control that was upon him, his family, and friends. They were only allowed to watch television shows that were approved by the government. They could only listened to radio stations that were approved by the government. They didn’t have the choice to choose Military, it was mandatory. Their entire lives were rationed by the government. He and eleven friends plotted for months to escape to freedom.

He and nine friends woke early one morning, 22 years ago, with rucksacks’ on their back and they headed toward the border. They had to avoid getting caught. If they were caught they would be tortured, put in jail, or shot and killed.

Only 3 people succeeded in crossing the border to Yugoslavia, which still wasn’t a safe place. They spent 29 days on the run to reach freedom. They had to run, many times for hours. They hid in unsafe places. They drank from any water they found. Many times it was very cold. They had to find bits of food in fields as they passed through. At one point, they did get caught and was put in a Yugoslavian jail, which they escaped after 10 days. The details of the escape, how they ate, slept, hid, traveled and survived, are so incredible.

After making it to safe ground, he spent a year planning to go and get his wife to bring her to a safe country also. He chose to leave his son with his parents until he was safely approved in a new country. Again, he had to be very careful not be caught and deported.

He spent time in a refugee camp. Finally, after another 1 ½  he got approved to come to the United States. He knew no English, yet he was able to find menial work, even though he was college educated back in his home country. My fiancé was going to do whatever it took to make a better life, with freedom. After 6 months in the United States he had another son.

He finally reached freedom. It had been two and a half years of running, hiding, waiting, and leaving 26 years of his life behind, a fair price for freedom?

Hmmmm......no, it was not:

Three years passed by, and freedom was not that easy. He spend those three years with heartache and loneliness. The marriage fell apart. He was left to raise his youngest son alone, while trying to support the two of them.

When his youngest son was 4 ½ years old, he was hit by a car while they were fishing, and ended up in a coma for 9 days. His son was in the hospital for 9 months and had 2 years of intensive therapy. His son needed 75% supervisory care. My fiancé was the one to give that to him. His son came out of the hospital with brain damage that leaves my fiancé to have to care for him, in some fashion, the rest of his life.

Six years later he was reunited with the son he had to leave behind. My fiancé was then left to raise his two sons alone, with no help from anybody, as his family was still in his home country.

Four years later his oldest son was spending time with his mom. His son went down the street with a  friend. The two boys were robbed. My fiances son was murdered. My fiancé was alone to deal with his anguish.

This is just a very small part of his story about escaping communist country, having a son hit by a car, now with brain damage and having a son robbed and murdered.

Just listening to his words will make you feel like you are apart of his story. He makes you feel his hunger, thirst, worry, and most of all his sadness. That’s why I would like him to have his life story written to remind us all the price one pays for freedom.

The pain is hard to see in his face. When that wave of memories hits him, I can tell you that he is still suffering, especially when I hear these words; “My life is cursed. I’m paying for something and I don’t know what.”

My fiances faith is very strong, although on these moments or days, I wonder if he thinks that God has turned his back on him. Even though he doesn’t use those words. I would love to be able to show him that God did not turn his back on him.

It breaks my heart, that with freedom had to come so much loss.

I’m hoping that there is somebody out there that will be interested in helping us, with our quest in writing his story. Hopefully, God willing, we can make enough money, with the book, to re-open the seven year old cold case of his oldest son’s murder, and be able to give a reward in order to get somebody to talk, so my fiancé can finally have closure. And I hope, through this, I can achieve knowledge or wisdom to help find the proper tutor, educational resources, or life skills so that his youngest son can live as normal a life as possible.

We both work full time jobs, have a house payment, and car payments. We too, like most people, live paycheck to paycheck. I’m hoping to document his story before we are too old to do it. We are both in our forties.

We will be most grateful to anybody with the knowledge, in this type of book, for their input in getting us on the right path. If you would simply like to donate, to help us with our quest, just click on the secure PayPal donate button.

Serious inquiries only, please. This is NOT a scam. There are NO lies in this post. I have proof that all of these things truly did happen. Please fill free to email us. My fiancé will be happy to answer any question you may have.

Thank you and God bless.
